What are you listening to? I couple of years ago I’ve noticed that most of the songs I really liked turned out to be those of One Republic or written by Ryan Tedder. And it’s still true. I have “Everybody loves me” on repeat in my MP3 player. There are also “Secrets” (even though the song is pretty old) and “Good life”. So I figured how about I write a little something about him: some facts from his biography.
Ryan Benjamin Tedder.
Ryan was born in 1979, in Tulsa, Oklahoma (by the way, it is the city Chandler from “Friends” worked in before he quit 🙂 ). He was raised in the family of missionaries and pastors.
His father started teaching him to play the piano at the age of tree, using Suzuki method (I’d call it “the candy encouragement”). Ryan started singing without any pressure. He was 7 by then and he was copying his favorite singers – Sting, Peter Gabriel, Steve Wonder, etc.
When he hit 18 he took a professional singing class (two hours a day).
He studied in Christian School, Colorado Springs, Colorado. There he met his future band-mate Zach Filkins and became friends with him. They were on the same soccer team at school.
Ryan Tedder graduated from Oral Roberts University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Public Relations and Advertising.
Before his DreamWorks internship he worked as a shop assistant at a Pottery Barn. He used to sell the songs he wrote to producers ($300 each). At the age of twenty one he was chosen for a one-hour special on MTV by a singer from N Sink – Lance Bass. He performed his own song “The Look” and won Lance’s “Free Lance Entertainment” award that didn’t turn into anything.
A year after that a hip hop producer Timberland noticed the singer and offered him to write songs for other artists. He had success both in the United States of America and in the United Kingdom.
In 2006 Timberland founded his own recording company “Mosley Music group” and signed a contract with One Republic (what 2 years ago Columbia Record refused to do). Ryan Tedder Moved to Los-Angeles where within a year he wrote his first best-seller “Apologize”.
As a songwriter and a producer, he worked with such artists as Adele, Jenifer Lopez, Beyonce (her well-known song “Halo” is written by Ryan), B.o.B., Maroon 5, Far East movement, Leona Lewis (Ryan wrote the “Bleeding love” hit).
Beyonce with “Halo” was nominated for Grammy twice (“The song of the year” and “The album of the year”).
Ryan plays a lot of musical instruments: vocals, acoustic guitar, electric guitar, bass guitar, drums, piano, keyboards, synthesizers, tambourine, clarinet, vibraphone and even organ and hammond organ!
Now Ryan is happily married. His wife’s name is Genevieve. Ryan and her have a child, a son – Copeland Cruz Tedder, who was born in 2010, on August 2 in Denver, Colorado.
These were a few word about my favorite songwriter and singer ever 🙂
